Elephants, Zebras, and Gazelles, Oh My!

Our science EOG groups are going really well.  This week we discovered the Africam on http://www.sportsmansparadiseonline.com/, and we've been observing live action at a waterhole in South Africa near the border of Swaziland.  The first day we saw two elephants saunter by the waterhole.  Right now, we're watching zebras graze.  It is so fascinating!

On another science note, to help us remember that Speed=Distance/Time, we learned a song we found on Youtube to the tune of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."  The song has been fun, and the forumula is now stuck in our heads!

What did you learn this week?

Our Week of STARBASE

Think of all the different sessions you've participated in at STARBASE.  What has been your favorite learning experience?  My favorite was the session on Nanotechnology.  I think it is so cool how scientists can look at the smallest particle, the atom, and change it so that we can improve inventions.  Can you believe how pants can be water and stain resistant by putting "whiskers" on the cotton fibers??  How cool!

Inertia

Explain Newton's First Law of Motion.  Give an example from your everyday life to help explain this law.

Sir Isaac Newton

What do you know about Sir Isaac Newton?  The quote by Sir Isaac Newton on the back of our Science Olympiad T-Shirts says, "No great discovery was ever made without a bold guess."  What does this quote mean to you?

We are going to STARBASE in 2 weeks. We've talked a little bit about what to expect there. Post a blog below about what you expect STARBASE to be about. Are you looking forward to it?

Please make sure you post in complete sentences. Make sure to add your name to your post!!!  Remember online ettiquette: Be polite and positive. Anything you say online can potentially be viewed by anyone online! I look forward to hearing from you.
